Nordic Bio Power acquires Cortus assets and establishes a modern biochar plant in Höganäs

The plant will be used for large-scale biochar production based on by-products from the forest and wood industries, as well as agricultural residues. By utilizing the existing infrastructure and further developing the technology, Nordic Bio Power is creating an efficient and sustainable production process that contributes to both regional and national climate transition. 

“This is a natural next step for Nordic Bio Power. We gain a fully developed industrial facility and can continue expanding our biochar production on an industrial scale,” says Helén Olausson, CEO of Nordic Bio Power.

The acquisition strengthens Nordic Bio Power’s industrial foundation and accelerates the company’s Nordic expansion. With facilities in Höganäs and Davidstad, the company is establishing a platform for continued growth in renewable energy and biochar. 

“The Höganäs plant strengthens our position in the Nordic region and enables us to accelerate the shift toward sustainable energy production. Production is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2026. The Höganäs facility is Nordic Bio Power’s second plant, alongside the established pellet production site in Davidstad, Finland, and forms part of the company’s long-term plan to build a Nordic network of modern biochar plants.
